  • Archery and mountain biking

Fri 22 May 2015 Mrs Tustin

A group of determined Year 5 pupils took part in an Archery and Mountain Biking event at Stow Rugby Club on Thursday 21st May as part of Sainsbury’s School Games calendar. Many South Cotswold Schools took part and all those who attended had a great day. Our 9 children who took part in the Archery competition learned new skills and co-operated as a team. Our Mountain Biking team achieved 2nd and 3rd place in the timed trial and our relay team finished in 3rd place; well done!

  • New round-up

Fri 17 Apr 2015 Mrs Tustin

Our new themes across the school are well and truly underway, offering the children first-hand experiences and engaging learning opportunities. Children in Years 1 and 2 have been spending a lot of time outdoors exploring the trees in our school ground as part of their topic ‘The Enchanted Woodland’. The theme will include a party in the woods, meeting a real beady-eyed owl and building a teeny tiny home for a woodland fairy! Children in Years 3 and 4 have been looking at teeth and will be investigating how much plaque is left on our teeth after we have brushed them – yuk! A memorable experience took place for children in Years 5 and 6 when they pretended to be evacuees during WW2. The children then considered their own feelings and how children during this period felt.

  • News round up

Mon 16 Mar 2015 Mrs Tustin

Each term at St David’s C of E Primary School, we have a whole school topic that links into our Christian values; this term our value is ‘Friendship’ and this is explored in various ways across the curriculum.  The children have been thinking about what makes a good friend and how to deal with situations that may arise with our friends.

The Owl classes have been busy studying Charles Darwin through their theme, ‘Darwin’s Delights’. They had an exciting visit from Zoo Lab who brought many animals, including an African land snail, tarantula, bearded dragon and corn snake. The children learned about Charles Darwin’s voyage on HMS Beagle, how he collected various specimens to take back home and about adaptation.

We are thrilled to report that our girls’ Floorball team won the final and the score was 7-3 against Ilmington Primary School. Well done to everyone who took part.

A group of staff and children attended the unveiling of a memorial stone, place in Moreton cemetery, to commemorate the men from Moreton who died in active service. It was a poignant moment when Joe Dyer, a Year 6 pupil, placed a cross in front of the memorial stone in remembrance of one of his relatives who had died in battle 100 years previously.

In preparation for World Book Week, each class created a dedicated reading space with a special story-telling chair. Throughout the week many book-related activities took place and on World Book Day many new faces arrived at school when all the children and staff dressed up as different book characters. During the course of the day, each class walked to Books Yule Love to swap their £1 book voucher for a book of their choice. Did you spot any well-known characters walking through Moreton High Street?

  • Children visit author, Jenny Kane

Thu 12 Feb 2015 Mrs Tustin

Richard Kemp, owner of Books Yule Love in Moreton, invited all KS1 pupils to meet the author Jenny Kane, who introduced her latest book ‘There’s a Cow in the Flat’. After hearing the story, they all came up with imaginative ideas when asked how the cow got into the flat in the first place.  The children excitedly walked back to school after having the opportunity to purchase the book signed by the author.

  • School uniform information

Tue 06 Jan 2015 Faye Heming
A letter has been sent home today regarding the importance of children wearing correct school uniform. If you did not receive this letter it can be accessed on the letters/bulletins page of the school website.
  • Term 2 excitement

Sun 16 Nov 2014 Mrs Tustin

Across the school we have been busy ‘kick starting’ our new themes for this term. ‘Moon Zoom’ is the theme in Years 1 and 2  and the children were very excited having found the remains of a spaceship in the Infant playground, along with glittery footprints, a pair of silver boots and green goo!

The children in Years 3 and 4 launched their new theme, dressing up as Vikings and invading a number of classrooms.

In Years 5 and 6 the pupils have been studying the book Bill’s New Frock. Excitement filled the room when the children received a visit from the character, Bill, giving them the opportunity to use their knowledge and understanding from the book to ask him questions.

  • Exciting visits to support our themes

    Tue 14 Oct 2014

The children at St. David’s C of E Primary School have started the new academic year with a range of exciting school trips.

The children in the Falcon’s classes have been on a school visit to Fosseway Garden Centre as part of their Scented Garden topic. The children had a wonderful time and enjoyed planting bulbs and finding out more about gardening.

Bell boating was the buzzword in the Eagles classes as they went on an amazing trip to Fladbury on 8th September to find out more about bell boating. The children’s cooperation, communication and listening skills were vital to their success and they managed to successfully navigate the river, negotiate a lock and return to school (fairly) dry and in one piece.

The children in Scops class took part in a maths puzzle challenge organised by Chipping Campden School. This event really did challenge them and it was wonderful to see the children applying their logic and reasoning skills to solve the puzzles.

Thank you to all of the staff and parent volunteers who helped to make the trips a real success.

  • Kwik cricket tournament

    Thu 05 Jun 2014

On Tuesday 3rd June two teams from St. David’s School took part in a kwick cricket tournament at Bourton Vale Cricket Club. Luckily the weather stayed fine and the children enjoyed playing against teams from Fairford, Cold Aston and Bourton-on-the-Water Primary Schools.

St. David’s B team were up against stiff competition, losing out to Cold Aston’s A team. However St. David’s A team managed to get through to the final. Excellent cricket skills were observed with Martha  Robbins and Alfie Townely both making  great catches. Mike Clare’s batting was sensational and St. David’s A team demonstrated excellent skills and superb sporting behaviour. Despite a great effort from our players Cold Aston won a place in the County finals.

Well done to everyone who took part – a great afternoon of cricket was enjoyed by all.

  • School behaviour policy

    Tue 29 Apr 2014
We are currently reviewing our school behaviour policy. It is important that we find out the children’s views and we are consulting with them to see if we can further improve the behaviour management systems we follow in school. Each class is currently discussing the rewards and sanctions we have in place and are making suggestions to make them effective for everyone.

We would like to know parents and carers thoughts on the way behaviour is managed in school. We have created a short survey for you to complete online: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BXFWRGP

You are also welcome to write your opinions or queries down and send them into school. We want to ensure our behaviour management strategies are effective and fully supported by the children, parents/carers and staff.

We will be reviewing everyone's views on 14th May, so please complete the questionnaire or send in your opinions before that date.
