Term 6

Our theme this term is 'Land Ahoy!'

We have been exploring different types of boats including the class dinghy! Our imaginations came alive when we imagined being in a famous sea painting and then wrote stories about the painting.

Next we are learning about Captain James Cook and other famous sea explorers. We will then be looking at pirates! Drawing maps, finding treasure and singing sea shanties. So a busy term for all in Merlin Class.

Term 5 theme is: The Enchanted Woodland

To start our theme we explored the schools small woodland area and found some fairy doors with magic jewels. We have used our hands to paint leaves and create our own tree in the classroom. Our senses came in useful as we investigated the feel, look, smell and sounds in and around the trees.

We have a special woodland visitor coming in to see us which we are very exited about!

As part of the theme we will identify types of trees and animals found in our woodlands.

Please can all 'Show and Tell' items for this term be linked in some way to our Enchanted Woodland theme.

Term 4 theme is: Towers, turrets and tunnels

All the children brought in wonderful and creative castles built from cardboard, wood and Lego after half term. So Thank You for all the hard work over the holidays. We are enjoying them all!

We are reading the story of Rapunzel, producing story maps and then retelling the story. The children will be making towers of their own out of a variety of materials and then measuring them.

Splendid Skies

This term we are looking at weather.  All our work will be on the theme of weather and we have lots of exciting things planned including observing the weather, thinking about suitable clothes, looking at hot and cold places and writing postcards.  Keep checking our page for photos of what we have been up to.  If you have any weather story books at home then please send them in so that we can read them as a class.

Homework links

We have been doubling numbers to 10 + 10 and learning number bonds to 10.  Please practise these using the websites below.

We have blasted off to space this term in our theme Moon Zoom.  We started our theme by investigating the scene of a crashed space ship.

We found glittery footprints, wellington boots, green slime, springs and lots more!

We have been busy getting creative and have made space pictures and alien pictures which look really fantastic.  We enjoyed a visit to the local bookshop, Books Yule Love, where we listened to a story about Bob, the Man on the Moon.  In the next couple of weeks we are going to make moon buggies.  Look out for more pictures of our exciting topic.
