Summer Term 1 (2021-22)

Road Trip USA!

Parent information

Buckle up, sunglasses on. We’re going on a road trip across the good old US of A. Flying from London Gatwick, and landing at JFK airport New York, it’s time to explore the sights and sounds of the Big Apple. Use your map skills to navigate your way around some of its most famous landmarks and send a postcard home to ask the question ‘Do you wish you were here?’ Learn how to send an email to book a day trip or reserve a room. Make sure you ask the important questions ‘Does your hotel have a pool? Is there 24-hour room service?’ Meet the Iroquois tribe; Native Americans with amazing customs and traditions. Then plan a bespoke road trip for Mr Smith and his family of four. They want to spend three weeks in the sunshine. It’s going to be a long ride. Put the roof down and let the wind blow through your hair. We’re off.

Spring Term 2 (2021-22)

Misty Mountain Sierra

Mighty mountains peak above the morning mists, imposing and eternal, rocky outcrops at their feet. Discover how these giants are formed, as a fold or a block, a dome or a plateau. Follow the water cycle’s course from peak to valley and meet the exceptional tribes of the hostile Himalayas. Then plan a mountain expedition from the BMC that is eco friendly and as safe as can be. But look out. What’s that by that tree? Its footprints are huge. Have we found the Yeti?

2021-22: Spring Term 1

Scrumdiddlyumptious

Tuck in and enjoy a yummy journey of discovery, tasting fantastic fruits, venerable vegetables and tantalizing treats. Work up an appetite with delicious stories about food, have fun with a vegetable orchestra or become a fruity sculptor. Find exciting recipes to read – and write your own, too. Then get busy in the kitchen, making tasty dishes from across the world and discover how good food helps you grow fit and strong. Be a whizz and create your own scrumdiddlyumptious smoothie for Squeezy Joe and his team of fruity friends. And here’s food for thought – if you are what you eat, what does that make you?Tuck in and enjoy a yummy journey of discovery, tasting fantastic fruits, venerable vegetables and tantalizing treats. Our journey of discovery:

As part of our theme we looked at where in the world our food came from.  We discovered that many of the fruits and vegetables we like to eat have travelled thousands of miles to reach our supermarkets such as bananas from Costa Rica; cherries and blueberries from Chile; grapes from Peru; lychees from Madagascar and a little closer to the UK we had raspberries and cucumbers from Spain.

Some of us also tried to use foods as natural dyes; red onion turned our fabric a surprising shade of green whilst carrot was not as orange as we expected.

Gods and Mortals

From nothingness came chaos; from chaos came air and water; from air and water came life.  Then, rising majestically from the darkness, came Gaia, Mother Earth, a beacon of warmth and light. Discover a fantastical world full of mythical creatures and legendary heroes. Poseidon, Apollo, Artemis and Zeus reign almighty from Mount Olympus, watching mere mortals on dusty Athenian streets. Meet Theseus, the hero, and Helen of Troy, the beautiful face that launched a thousand ships. Explore the terrains of Greece, where in pure blue skies, the Sun scorches waxen wings and melts the fortunes of Icarus and Daedalus. Then decide your own fate when a mysterious box is found and stirs your curious mind.
